Armenia
In Armenia, WHO supports the government’s ambitious health sector reforms aimed at strengthening primary health care and advancing UHC. WHO provides technical assistance for the design and implementation of the national health insurance system, improvements in medicines policy and the development of a modern primary health care model. WHO also contributes to strengthening health workforce regulation, quality of care monitoring and the coordination of development partners supporting the reform agenda.
Georgia
In Georgia, WHO supports the implementation of the National Health-care Strategy 2022–2030, which aims to improve equity, quality and financial protection within the health system. WHO provides policy advice and technical assistance to strengthen primary health care, optimize health financing system, enhance health workforce development, improve access to medicines and scale up digital health systems. Particular attention is given to improving access to services and medicines for rural populations and people living with chronic conditions.
Kyrgyzstan
In Kyrgyzstan, WHO supports national health priorities focused on strengthening primary health care and addressing the growing burden of NCDs. WHO provides technical assistance to develop a national “NCD+” strategy, strengthen health workforce policies, advance digital health and identify barriers to health service access in remote and mountainous areas. WHO also convenes development partners to ensure coordinated support to the health sector and alignment with national health and development priorities.
Republic of Moldova
In the Republic of Moldova, WHO supports the government’s efforts to modernize the health system, enhance system resilience and advance UHC. Technical assistance focuses on strengthening primary health care and multidisciplinary teams, improving strategic purchasing and advancing digital health infrastructure and data systems. WHO also supports national institutions in strengthening health workforce governance and ensuring that reforms are aligned with international standards and European Union integration priorities.
North Macedonia
In North Macedonia, WHO supports health system reforms aimed at strengthening primary health care, improving access to essential medicines, enhancing health system resilience and advancing reforms aligned with European Union integration priorities. WHO provides technical guidance to strengthen the prevention and management of NCDs through primary health care, improve medicines governance and transparency and support preparedness for health emergencies.
Tajikistan
In Tajikistan, WHO supports the government in advancing UHC through strengthening primary health care and health financing reforms. Key areas of work include supporting the scale-up of health financing reforms – building on the Sughd pilot, strengthening the health workforce through implementation of the national Human Resources for Health (HRH) Action Plan and advancing new primary health care delivery models supported by digital health development. WHO also convenes policy dialogue and coordinates development partners to ensure that reforms are evidence-based, aligned with national priorities and implemented in a coherent and sustainable manner.
Ukraine
In Ukraine, WHO supports health system reform and recovery as the country continues to face the challenges of war. WHO provides technical assistance to advance the implementation of the National Health Strategy 2030, strengthen the Program of Medical Guarantees and improve strategic purchasing through the National Health Service of Ukraine. WHO also supports the strengthening of primary health care, health workforce development and coordination among international partners to support health system recovery, modernization and alignment with European Union integration priorities.
Uzbekistan
In Uzbekistan, WHO supports large-scale health system reforms focused on strengthening primary health care, modernizing the health workforce and rolling out health financing reforms across the country. WHO provides technical guidance on policy design, workforce education and licensing reforms and the strengthening of strategic purchasing. WHO also supports the development of improved primary health care service delivery models tailored to the country’s needs and available resources, helping to ensure sustainable progress toward UHC.
