Trust in science, health systems and health authorities

Trust in science, health systems and health authorities is fundamental to effective public health, resilient health systems, emergency preparedness and response, and equitable and sustainable health financing. Studies point to a worrying decline in trust, particularly in governments, driven in part by the politicization of health, the spread of false information and commercial interests in influencing public health policy.

WHO/Europe is committed to supporting Member States in strengthening their capacity to protect and restore trust through countering false information, enhancing science literacy, strengthening evidence on trust dynamics and building strategic partnerships.

This side event will explore how trust can be built and sustained across health systems and public health. The event will:

• present country examples and population perspectives.
• discuss the latest data and trends on trust in health.
• share evidence-based strategies and tools for building and sustaining trust.
• showcase WHO/Europe initiatives, country support and practical tools.

Participants will gain a better understanding of the factors that influence trust and the practical approaches available to strengthen it. The event will also provide a platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration among Member States and partners to advance the implementation of the WHO Second European Programme of Work and strengthen health systems, healthier populations and emergency preparedness across the Region.
